Abstract
|
|
|
The initial-treatment of uremic pericarditis is determined by the hemodymic stability of the patient. In stable patients, intensive dialytic therapy, coupled with echocardiographic monitoring of pericardial effusion every 3 days is the initial
approach.
The surgical intervention is recommended in all patients with hemodynamic instability and echocardiographic evidence of enlarging percardial effusions or an effusion unchanged in size following 10 days of intensive hemodyalysis. Operative
interventions
are pericardiocentesis. Pericardial window formation, pericardiectomy. subxiphoid preicardiotomy. Pericardial window formation is simple, and can be performed in critically ill patients, in the treatment of cardiac tamponade and intractable
dialysis-associated pericarditis with effusion.
We report a case of uremic pericarditis which was treated with pericardial window formation.
